Other features include a set of proprietary output transformers with a double C-core – this approach, together with a push-pull circuit, guarantees sufficient power to drive even complex speakers. Although, during our experiments, it was the coaxial connection that provided the best results – again, due to the interface solutions. One way or another, the chip can still operate on only 16 bits. Its real resolution parameters are 16 bits, so the issue of differences in the resolution of the signals received at the input refers only to the conversion modules and the quality of the interfaces, and not to the physical circuit of the matrix. It should be noted that the heart of the Audio Note Cobra digital-to-analog converter is the good old Philips TDA1543 microcircuit.
The optical input is much better – it works with digital streams with a resolution of up to 24 bit / 96 kHz, and the best digital connection is the coaxial input, which is capable of accepting a signal with a resolution of up to 24 bit / 176.4 kHz. Unfortunately, the problem is present at the most widespread USB input today – the device can only receive signals up to 16 bit / 48 kHz through it. The rear panel contains three analog line level inputs (on RCA connectors) and three digital ports. The amplifier operates on a push-pull circuit, has an input impedance of 100 KΩ and an input sensitivity of 300 mV. The preliminary amplification stage for each Audio Note Cobra channel is implemented on a 5670 double triode and a 6AU6 pentode, the power amplifier is built on a pair of E元4 pentodes from the American company Electro-Harmonix, manufactured at the Sovtek plant in Saratov. The power consumption of 175 W clearly hints at the correct power parameters of the amplifier section.
The output power of Audio Note Cobra when operating on a load of 8 ohms reaches 2×27-28 W (the data in the operating instructions differ slightly from the official website), the error in the entire operating frequency range is 0.3 dB. The main thing to remember is that the device is quite weighty, like any tube amplifier – with a case dimensions of 340x199x451 mm, it weighs 13.6 kg.
